Mike Simmons

For most of his career, Mike Simmons was a research scientist and manager, at the Santa Fe Institute, where he was Vice President, and at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he was Deputy Associate Director for Physics and Mathematics. After retiring from the Institute he worked as a consultant on organizational strategy and education with Santa Fe Associates International and Palace Technologies and on complex systems with the Washington, DC, Center for Strategic and International Studies.

In addition to being on the board of Aspen Public Radio, Mike has also served on the St. Vincent's Hospital Institutional Review Committee in Santa Fe and on the First Press Committee at Friends of Public Radio Arizona. He was a member and Chair of the J. Robert Oppenheimer Memorial Committee in Los Alamos and a Director and President of the Los Alamos Ski Racing Club.

Mike served as Trustee, Treasurer, and President of the Aspen Center for Physics, where he is now an Honorary Trustee. Mike is also a director and Vice President of the Aspen Science Center.

Mike was a postdoctoral fellow, faculty member, and visiting faculty member at University of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Texas, New Hampshire, Arizona, and Washington University. He got his BA in physics from Rice University, MS in theoretical physics from Louisiana State University and PhD in theoretical physics from Cornell University. He and his wife Margaret live in Emma.
